Into the Depths was a narrative illustration that experimented with unconventional lighting and intense contrast in values. I wanted to explore a light environment that would challenge me to view the face in a way that was out of my comfort zone, the lower-lit lighting giving the figure an ominous appeal. I used a symmetrical composition to establish this character as a dark divine figure.
